Mike asked:

On the eve of Presidential debate about domestic policies and economic policies McCain/Palin start a war of associations when he has all of these skeletons in the closet:

CHARLES KEATING
McCain’s former close friend Charles Keating, who is a convicted felon and was found guilty of conspiracy, racketeering and fraud in the “Keating Five” conspiracy. In 1989, a Senate Ethics Committee found McCain guilty of using “poor judgment” in this controversy.

G. GORDON LIDDY
McCain is close friends with G. Gordon Liddy, who was convicted of conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping as part of the Watergate conspiracy. Liddy served more than 4 years in prison for these crimes. Liddy calls McCain an “old friend” and McCain has appeared on Liddy’s radio program as recently as May 2008. Liddy has contributed more than $5000 to McCain’s campaigns over the years, and held a McCain fundraiser at his home, too.

INDIAN GAMBLING INDUSTRY and JACK ABRAMOFF
McCain “counts casino executives among his close friends and prolific fundraisers” reported the New York Times, that called McCain “the father of Indian gambling.” McCain has led the passage of legislation that has been very beneficial to the Indian gambling industry.

RICHARD QUINN. McCain payed $20,000 a month to this political consultant, a neo-Confederate, who was one of the leaders of the state’s pro-flag faction. Editor in chief of Southern Partisan, a magazine that published apologias for slavery and sold paraphernalia celebrating the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. McCain describes Quinn as “a man of integrity” who wasn’t responsible for what appeared in his own magazine. REP RICK RENZI (R-AZ) indicted for extortion, wire fraud, money laundering and other charges related to a land deal in Arizona.. Renzi has been good friends with John McCain for years.

Do you think this will blow up in his face on national TV?

Bill writing exercise (please help me)?

thanhtuyen_030788 asked:

Your bill may be on any state legislative subject you wish. The war in Iraq and immigration reform are federal responsibilities, but there are state responsibilities also. For instance, the State of Texas could reward Iraq War veterans from Texas by some method (free tuition to state colleges, additional funding for new homes, extra exemption from property taxes). On immigration, the City of Farmers Branch recently passed an ordinance requiring that landlords check on the legal residency status of potential renters. The ordinance is currently unenforceable because of a federal court injunction, but this may change. There are lots of other state subjects for legislation – taxes, gambling, roads, social service spending, education, law enforcement, environmental issues, and the list is lengthy. Use your imagination, but narrow the subject to a reasonable item for one bill.

Put an arbitrary number in HB [ ]. In each legislative session, the state legislature numbers the bills and resolutions that are filed. This bill was filed in the Texas House of Representatives, HB [ ] by you.

Section 1 requires definitions. The law must be specific to reduce “wiggle room” for people to escape the purpose of the law.

Section 2 is the “meat” of the law. What are the components of the law? What are you trying to accomplish? Will the new law require another state agency or can an existing state agency enforce it?

Section 3 establishes the penalties for violating the law. There can be civil and/or criminal penalties.

Texas Legislative Services HB[ ]
Filed by [ ]
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
[ ]
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

Section 1. Definitions.

[ ]

Section 2. Provisions.

[ ]

Section 3. Penalties.

[ ]

Section 4. Repealer Clause
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are herewith repealed to the extent of the conflict.

Section 5. Severability Clause
If any portion of this Act shall be declared unconstitutional, it is the intent of this Legislature that the other portions of this Act shall remain in full force and effect.

Section 6. Emergency Clause
The importance of this legislation and the crowded conditions of the calendars of both Houses create an imperative public necessity that the Constitutional Rule requiring that Bills be read on three separate days in each House be suspended, and that this Act shall take effect immediately upon its passage, and it is so enacted.
I just dont get it, but if i pick issue like IMMIGRATION then i write about it. The thing is that i dont know what to write about the definition
would you please just help me writing the definition for immigration?

What is considered illegal gambling?

thorie79 asked:

Hello, I’m trying to figure out what is considered to be illegal gambling (California). Even the word “gambling” can mean a lot of things but even when talking about games of chances for money, what differentiates a Texas Hold’em Poker game and investing in the stock market or your friend’s new business? What would be a likely penalty if convicted of flipping a coin with my friend to determine who should pay for dinner? Would I have to go to jail? Any good references for a beginner to read about the law would be useful, since ignorance is not a defense.

riogrande_texas asked:

I think it’s because they can’t find a way to tax it. Personally I have switched political parties over the whole mess. Don’t you think it was quite ridiculous to include legislation with the Safe Port Act? Under-handed and dirty!! Shame

Online gambling, why some yes and some no?

killykole asked:

So they passed legislation to make online gambling illegal for US citizens. They closed down Netteller and Pokerroom. com no longer lets US people play with real $. But there’s some websites (poker and sports) who still accept credit cards. What is the discrepancy? How come some can still operate and others are shut down?

I actually think banning online gambling is a good thing for me, but it should either be a total ban or no-ban, not half-a@@.
