The president signed a law the end of September stating that online gambling is ILLEGAL. I figure this is because the government is not making any money on internet gambling, so they said “SCREW IT, lets outlaw it” Stinks for me, because I loved to play poker.

They will figure out some way around it but right now if you live in the US it is illegal to gamble on line

The new law in the USA concerns the transfer of funds for purposes of gambling online. It does not affect the gambling itself. Some states (such as Louisiana) have claimed that they can prosecute those engaged in providing such services from abroad. The law is subject to evasion by funding from abroad: a Canadian or other foreign credit card; a foreign bank account. A Western Union transfer to a mail drop somewhere.

The US Government (the Department of Justice) has only claimed that sports gambling wherever based is illegal when offered or provided to US persons. It will not go further for fear of damaging the interests of US-based providers of lottery and other gambling services.

There is also the difficulty of distinguishing between online and other gaming in a manner that is legally viable.

The new law (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) doesn’t actually make it illegal to gamble online. It only makes it illegal for banks and other financial institutions to transfer your money to these gambling sites. I’m no expert, but it probably won’t do that much, as banks can simply transfer your funds to an international payment processor, like Neteller, who then can send your money to the gambling site, the Treasury and government has no control over who these international companies send your money to.
